What's the difference between pure vine and the brew?

Banisteriopsis Caapi, otherwise known as the Ayahuasca pure vine, refers to the Banisteriopsis Caapi vine itself. It contains alkaloids such as harmine and harmaline. Ayahuasca brew, on the other hand, is a ceremonial concoction made by combining Banisteriopsis caapi vine with other plants, typically containing the psychedelic compound DMT (such as Psychotria Viridis or Diplopterys Cabrerana).

While the pure vine contains harmala alkaloids that act as MAO inhibitors, allowing the DMT to become orally active, the brew is the result of combining these ingredients to create a potent psychoactive beverage used in traditional Amazonian shamanic rituals.
